Energy in Today's Classroom

2024 Class

Callaway Electric Cooperative supports an exciting program for teachers to learn about energy and energy production while earning Professional Development hours.

About the Program

Energy in Today's Classroom is a two-day continuing education course presented by Missouri's Electric Cooperatives. Designed to fully support Missouri's statewide educational standards, the course provides teachers with a background in energy and energy production.

 

 

 

Course Topics

Energy in Today's Classroom offers participating teachers knowledge and information in the following areas:

  • Energy basics
  • Energy Sources
  • Power generation and transmission
  • Economics and energy production
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Tour of the MU multi-fuel power generation station
  • Tour of Boone Electric Co-op's community solar facility

Course Credit

Teachers attending the course will participate in 15 hours of classroom training over a period of two consecutive days. Teachers who successfully complete the course will receive continuing education credit.

Educators in the middle and high school grade levels who have a background in science, math, agricultural science and building trades are ideal candidates for this course.

Interested teachers should contact Callaway Electric Cooperative to be considered for the course. Callaway Electric may send up to three (3) teachers to the course each year.

Additional Learning Opportunity

An option hour of graduate course credit may be obtained by the teacher at a later date at their own expense. Information about the additional credit hour will be provided at the conclusion of the course.

Classroom Materials

In addition to the materials and information covered during the course, participating teachers receive the opportunity to spend up to $500 for classroom tools to teach about energy. They also receive 15 hours of professional development to help reach professional development and career goals.

2025 Course Details

The 2025 Energy in Today's Classroom Course will be held July 30 - 31, 2025 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Jefferson City.

The course begins at 8:30 am on Wednesday and will conclude at 4 pm on Thursday.
